Our client, a leading Austin-based technology company is looking for an experienced and senior Engineering Manager to lead a team of Mechanical Design Engineers working on Humanoid development. This permanent role offers a hybrid work schedule with an immediate start.
Senior Engineering Manager responsibilities:
- Lead the overall design, development, and verification of the robot chassis, ensuring all technical documentation and testing meet required standards.
- Manage and guide a team of Mechanical Design Engineers focused on advancing humanoid robot technology.
- Organize and maintain best practices, creating standardized processes to streamline development.
- Develop and integrate innovative processes to enhance team efficiency and output.
- Collaborate with Lead Engineers to allocate resources and balance team workloads for optimal project execution.
- Provide mentorship and technical leadership to team members, promoting growth and skill development.
- Play a key role in building a world-class robotics team by recruiting, coaching, and fostering a culture rooted in Creativity, Humility, Integrity, Passion, and Curiosity.
- Work closely with cross-functional teams, including Actuation, Electrical, Systems, and Software, to develop cutting-edge robotic systems.
- Humanoid / Robotics / AMR (Autonomous Mobile Robotics) or EVs (Electric Vehicles) experience.
- Strong foundation in engineering fundamentals with advanced CAD skills (SolidWorks, Creo) and expertise in kinematics, structural design, and electromechanical systems.
- Proficient in designing for manufacturing processes (CNC machining, 3D printing, Sheet Metal, Die Casting, Injection Molding) with a focus on precision and detail.
- Expertise in GD&T, tolerance analysis, and Design for Manufacturing/Assembly (DFM/A).
- Skilled in finite element analysis and reporting, with experience in certification and product deployment.
- Familiar with revision control systems, failure analysis, and root cause investigation.
- Strong organizational skills, able to manage multiple projects and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.
- Excellent communication, both written and verbal, for clear and effective teamwork.
- Proven leadership and management of engineering, hardware and robotics teams
- Robotic system development or related industries (AV, Automotive or Aerospace). ARM Robotics, Pick & Place type robot mechanisms
- Fosters a culture of innovation and continuous improvement, while mentoring and guiding team members.
- Passionate, detail-oriented, and hands-on, ideal for creative problem solvers and tinkerers
- Experience with the likes of Structural Robotics Hardware, Thermal, Packaging and Battery Designs
- Start-up / scale-up experience.
- Product development – idea to launch or high volume production.
- 170-200k base salary
- Hybrid working (WFH 2 days per week)
