Brisbane CBD | Hybrid (2–3 days in office)
Salary: $100K–$170K + Super

Certus Recruitment Group is partnering with an innovative organisation in Brisbane to hire a Machine Learning Engineer to join their growing AI team.

You’ll work across NLP, computer vision, generative AI, and applied ML—building real-world solutions that sit at the intersection of data, design, and user experience.

If you enjoy shaping ideas from prototype to production and collaborating with cross-functional teams, this role offers genuine impact and technical breadth.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and fine-tune ML models across NLP, computer vision, and generative AI.
  • Adapt and apply foundation models (OpenAI, Anthropic, Cohere) for targeted use cases.
  • Build and maintain data pipelines, experiment tracking, and model deployment workflows.
  • Integrate ML capabilities into applications via REST APIs, collaborating closely with software developers.
  • Work within major cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and ML toolchains (PyTorch, TensorFlow, Hugging Face, MLflow, LangChain).
  • Operate in an agile, cross-functional team and contribute to broader AI/ML innovation initiatives.
Requirements

Core Technical Skills
  • 3+ years of ML engineering or applied machine learning experience.
  • Strong Python capability with ML frameworks (scikit-learn, PyTorch, TensorFlow).
  • Experience integrating ML models into production applications and workflows.
  • Knowledge of vector search and embedding technologies (FAISS, Pinecone, Weaviate).
  • Experience deploying APIs using FastAPI or Flask.
  • Comfortable working with structured and unstructured data (text, images, spatial).
  • Hands-on experience with AWS, Azure, or GCP.
Development & Collaboration
  • Ability to build ML pipelines from prototype through to production.
  • Experience with MLflow, Git, Weights & Biases or similar tools for experiment tracking and versioning.
  • Strong communication skills with both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Collaborative and proactive approach to problem-solving.
Mindset & Domain Interest
  • Research-minded and motivated to apply AI in meaningful, real-world contexts.
  • Interest in the built environment, design technology, or complex civic systems is valued.
  • Background in architecture, engineering, or design technology is a bonus but not essential.
Preferred (Not Required)
  • Experience with LLM orchestration (LangChain, Haystack), RAG, prompt tuning or hybrid search.
  • MLOps workflows (Airflow, Argo), model governance, and ML lifecycle optimisation.
  • Understanding of AI ethics, data privacy, and explainability.
  • Experience building internal AI tools/interfaces for non-technical teams.
Benefits
  • Hybrid working model with flexibility (typically 2–3 days in office).
  • Modern Brisbane CBD office with an engaging, collaborative team environment.
  • Opportunity to work on cutting-edge AI initiatives across NLP, vision, and generative systems.
  • Strong mentorship, cross-disciplinary collaboration, and exposure to diverse design and engineering challenges.
  • Career development within a team investing heavily in advanced ML capabilities.
